MSA Error and Apps keep Crashing on Xioami Phones – the Official Workaround

By Jeff Adam March 23, 2021 Leave a Comment

Apps Keeps Crashing on My Xiaomi Phone

I woke up today and just cannot open any of the main Apps that I regularly use on my Xiaomi phone. Gmail was constantly crashing, and requesting me to send error report to Xiaomi. Duolingo and other Apps were doing exactly the same. After clearing the Cache for individual Apps and restarting my phone, the problem was not fixed, and I started receiving “msa keeps stopping” error when I tried to open an App. This error keeps annoyingly popping up without any of the Apps opening.

MSA as I understand it is a system service on Android phones that has been badly affected by bug in a recent update and has rendered many Apps on Xiaomi phones unusable.

The Official Xiaomi Fix for MSA Keeps Stopping error

Thankfully, Xiaomi has suggested a fix that I have tested and it re1solved the issue on my phone, and I can confirm Apps on my phone are now opening without issues. The fix is really simple as tweeted by Xiaomi below.

Xiaomi MSA Error FixOption #1

  1. Open Settings icon on your phone
  2. Go to Apps
  3. Go Manage apps
  4. Search for Webview
  5. Open Android System Webview in the search result
  6. Click on Clear all data
  7. Restart your phone and test your Apps. This may fix your apps not opening. However, it did not fix mine. Option #2 below worked for me.

Above fix did not work for me, so I tried the second option below.

Option #2

  1. Open Settings icon on your phone
  2. Go to Apps
  3. Go Manage apps
  4. Search for Webview
  5. Open Android System Webview
  6. Go to the bottom of the App Info page
  7. Click on Uninstall updates
  8. Restart your phone and test your Apps

Above option #2 worked for me, and I hope it will also fix this annoying issue for you.  This could save you from the drastic option of resetting your phone to factory default in order to fix the issue.

If the fix work for you, I will appreciate if you come back a leave a comment so others will be confident in the solution. You may also leave a comment about other solutions that worked for you.
